At the Geopolitiks festival, Gulf envoy Di Maio: “Ceasefire in Lebanon as in Gaza”. Copasir president Guerini “We need Europe”
While the Middle East is burning, from Naples a strong invitation to keep the door of dialogue open to silence the weapons immediately. Luigi di Maio, special representative of the European Union for the Gulf area, at the first appointment of the second edition of Geopolitiks, an international festival of geopolitics, relaunches: “”It is obvious – according to the former Foreign Minister – that the Middle East is currently experiencing a great risk of escalation that can see a war that can extend. We must do everything we can to stop the danger of the conflict spreading to the rest of the region and we must promise that, once a ceasefire has been reached in Gaza, we will work seriously for a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine”.
The theme of the day of meetings was precisely the relationship between the West and the Arab world, with speeches by Di Maio himself and Lorenzo Guerini, president of Copasir who, from the stage of the Sannazaro theater, reiterated the need for a European commitment in the Middle East: “Both the dramatic tensions of the Middle East and the problems of Africa, North Africa: terrorism, instability, illicit trafficking, instability. All these are issues that require a commitment from Italy, a commitment from the European Union because part of our future, of our destiny is played out right in the Mediterranean”
The Geopolitiks festival will be divided into new initiatives in the coming months, involving especially school children, the goal: to open their eyes to international politics, as explained by the promoter Paola Fraconte. And on the prospect for Naples to be a hub of dialogue between the shores of the Mediterranean, Di Maio is clear: “We already are, we just have to believe in it”
